Hedgehog – Dentinum repandum

Hedgehog (Dentinum repandum) -  EDIBILITY: CHOICE

Key Features: A small to medium sized, buff to orange colored mushroom.  It has soft, but solid flesh.  The cap is irregular in shape, often with a little dimple in the "middle".  The cap also has inrolled margins that become more wavy with age.  The underside of the cap has pale teeth slightly descending the off-center stalk.  Spore print white.

Season: July - November

Habitat: On the ground under both deciduous and coniferous trees.  I have found most of mine in wetter areas of the forest.
